Course Overview

This blended Level 2 and Level 3 Electric and Hybrid Vehicle course is designed for technicians who may encounter electric and hybrid vehicles during routine servicing, maintenance, or repair work. As the automotive industry continues to move towards electrification, this qualification helps you build the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to work safely around high-voltage systems.

The programme combines online knowledge learning with practical, hands-on training and assessments. It provides a clear progression pathway from routine maintenance awareness through to safely working on high-energy electrical systems.

Whether you are looking to future-proof your career or ensure your business is prepared for the growth of electric vehicles, this course provides the essential foundation for working safely and professionally with modern vehicle technology.

Course Aims

This course includes two mandatory IMI units: EV2.2 and EV3.

EV2.2 (Level 2)

This unit focuses on developing awareness and safe working practices when carrying out routine maintenance on electric and hybrid vehicles. It covers:

  • Electric and hybrid vehicle system components and how they operate
  • Hazards associated with electric and hybrid vehicles
  • How to reduce risks to yourself and others
  • Safe preparation of vehicles before routine maintenance
  • Working safely around, but not on, high-voltage systems

EV3 (Level 3)

This unit develops the skills required to work safely and effectively on high-energy electrical systems. It includes:

  • Safe working practices on electric and hybrid vehicles
  • Using technical information to complete tasks
  • Carrying out repairs on high-energy electrical systems
  • Recording work and making suitable recommendations

How Will You Be Assessed?

Assessment for these qualifications includes both knowledge-based online tests and practical evaluations. Please note that these are separate qualifications that must be completed in a specific sequence:
  • EV 2.2 Qualification: You must successfully pass the online knowledge assessment before moving to the practical training and assessment.
  • Progressing to EV 3: Both the theory and practical elements of EV 2.2 must be fully achieved before you are eligible to begin the EV 3 qualification.

Course Duration

The course is delivered over three days, covering both theory and practical training.

Entry Requirements

Before you join this course you must be able to provide evidence for the following:

  • Appropriate vehicle maintenance and repair knowledge and skills at Level 3.

Upon completing the payments section of your booking form, you will be provided with a section to provide this information. This form must be completed at least 3 days before the course begins. Failure to do so may result in you not being allowed to attend the training sessions. If you do not hold a Level 3 qualification please get in touch with the support team who may be able to offer alternative options.
