Course Overview

The Vehicle Technician Accredited Assessment (VTAA) is designed for experienced mechanics who do not currently hold a Level 3 motor vehicle qualification but have developed strong skills through hands-on industry experience. This lifetime accreditation formally recognises your knowledge and practical ability, helping you progress in your career and meet industry requirements.

The VTAA is commonly completed by technicians who want to move forward into MOT testing but do not yet have the necessary qualification. By successfully completing this assessment, you can demonstrate your competence and take the next step towards becoming a qualified MOT Tester.

This programme combines practical assessments with knowledge-based evaluation, ensuring you are confident across key vehicle systems and compliant with DVSA expectations.

Course Aims

This course focuses on assessing your knowledge and practical skills in core vehicle systems, including:

  • Steering, suspension, wheels, and tyres
  • Braking systems
  • Vehicle electrics
  • Introduction to air conditioning and hybrid systems
  • Vehicle emissions

The aim is to confirm your competence and support your progression within the motor industry.

Course Duration

This is a two-day, module-based programme designed to help experienced technicians refresh and strengthen their theory knowledge ahead of the assessments.

Progression Route

The VTAA is recognised by the DVSA and, on successful completion, confirms that you meet the qualification requirement for entry onto the Level 2 Award in MOT Testing.

Progression to the MOT Tester course is subject to all other DVSA eligibility criteria being met, including experience, DBS clearance, and driving licence requirements. Our team will be happy to guide you through the full process and ensure you are ready to move forward with confidence.

Entry Requirements

Before you join this course you must be able to provide evidence for the below:

  • A current DBS certificate
  • A clean driving licence
  • 4 years’ experience working full-time as a mechanic

You will be provided with a section to provide this information upon completing the payments section of your booking form. This form must be completed at least 5 days before the course begins. Failure to do so may result in you not being allowed to attend the training sessions.
